Sign of the Times for The Church of Christ

I got this email from my grandfather today. I can relate to some of it, but even today, I seen some changes in The Church of Christ. This may be a sign of the times at least for some. Enjoy!

TOP TEN LIST
HOW YOU CAN TELL YOU GREW UP IN THE CHURCH OF CHRIST
10. You know the 1st,2nd, and 4th verses to nearly every song in the book.
9. You think it might be unscriptural to drain the baptistery.
8. You were 18 years old before you knew that "guardguideanddirectus" was not one word.
7. You used to think the offering was part of the Lord's Supper.
6. You've wondered who Ebon Pinon was.
5. You never saw an original showing of "The Ed Sullivan Show", or any other program aired on early Wednesday or Sunday nights.
4. You were the only kid in the 6th grade who knew what "acappella" meant.
3. You were the only kid who had actually sung alto or tenor before taking junior high chorus.
2. During a service you have: laughed, cried, spanked a child, dropped a book, walked to the bathroom, passed a note, emptied your purse on the pew, eaten a cookie, chewed gum, taken medicine, whispered to someone sitting beside you, winked at a friend, coughed, sneezed, burped, or said "amen", but you have NEVER, EVER clapped.

And the #1 way to tell that you grew up in the Church of Christ:
1. You have stood for 13 verses of "Just As I Am" with the last stanza sung softly.

The Artist Formally Known as God

I was thinking about this question the other day. Does God sing? I heard of believers singing praise to Him and the angels in Heaven singing, but what about the big guy.

I am not questioning whether or not God is capable of singing because I have great faith in that He can. The question is, "Does He sing?"

Let's just say He does. The next question is, "What does God sing about?"

Since He has such a vast knowledge of music, what genre or style of music would He sing? Does he sing all different types or just one? He might sing a style of music that has not existed for a hundreds, if not millions, of years.

What would He sing about? Does He sings praises to Himself? I know some people who are quite far from God, but still sing their own praises. Does His songs reflect sadness, joy, pain, happiness, sorrow, love? A lot of people sing about love, but what about God?

If He does sing? Have we heard Him, but failed to listen? Maybe we do not hear Him sing because we choose to listen to something else.

Maybe God does not sing and He just likes to listen.

I am not expecting answers from anyone because there is only one that can truly answer it. Just some random thoughts about the one I sing praises to.

A Hare-y Minute

So today, as I was leaving work, I was stopped by a man on campus. He was a tall individual like myself, but he was even whiter than me and was completely bald. He was all well dressed with a small, black, rolling suitcase. To me, he looked lost and I thought he needed to know where a certain building was on campus. Turns out that was not the case and I figured that out very quickly. He gave me a very bizarre compliment about my shirt, a Puma soccer T-shirt, and my hair, which wasn't all that great after a long day of work. Then he said, with what sounded like a Scandinavian accent, his name, which I forgot, and that he was from Alaska. He asked me where I was from and I was like "uhhh here". If I sounded confused or bewildered, it's because I was. I had no idea where this was going. Then he asked me to read this book and he hands me this very thick book with Hindu or Indian artwork on the cover. I did not bother looking through it or reading the title. I just quickly said "uhhh...no thanks" and walked away. He might of said "okay", but I did not bother turning around or giving him anymore of my attention. That was just a very eerie minute or two. I started off being tired from work and then suddenly, I got uncomfortable. Never in my life have I felt so uncomfortable on my university campus. Even before he showed me his book, the way he talked to me and the way he shook my hands (no firm handshake), just gave me this strange feeling about him. I am not sure how many other students and faculty had an encounter with him, but I hope not many.
