Good-bye Bill

There has been a lot of bad news in the world of sports with steroids, dog fighting, and gambling, but today the world of football and sports will be mourning the lost of Hall of Famer and 3 time Superbowl Champion Bill Walsh, who died at the age of 75. Bill did not just save the San Francisco 49ers, but also introduce the West Coast Offense, kept football alive in Northern California, and one of the first to hire African-Americans into the coaching staff. There would not of been a San Francisco 49ers without Bill Walsh. My prayers go out to Walsh's family, friends, and to the others who are missing him.
Go Niners!
Thank you Bill.

SMACKDOWN!!!

So my Monday and Tuesday of this week was great. On Monday I got to meet WWE Superstar (thats "pro-wrestler" to the non wrestling fans) Matt Hardy. Then on Tuesday night they were taping "ECW" and "SmackDown!" at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, CA. It was really fun and a good show. After they finished taping, they had a bonus match for us in the arena, in which Rey Mysterio returned.
Side note: The belts are not mine or my roommate's. There was a fan who let other fans pose with them.

$34.63

79 Quarters
110 Dimes
50 Nickels
138 Pennies

Total: $34.63

That was my final calculation from a CoinStar machine at the local SaveMart (formally Albertsons). I actually could of brought more coins to it, but I will save them for another day. The best part of it all was that the change got to go to a great charity for people fighting blood cancers. So a little "change" can make a big difference after all. :)

Two Shocks!!!

I am so happy to report that the San Jose Earthquakes are going to be returning in 2008. Most Americans do not care about soccer or the MLS (Major League Soccer), but I do. San Jose hosted the inaugural MLS game back in 1996 against D.C. United. I still have the poster in remembrance of the event. Back in 2005, the MLS broke my heart and many other Quake fans when they moved the team to Houston due to stadium conflicts. To make matters worse they lost their last game to the arch rival LA Galaxy that was led by their captain, Landon "backstabber" Donovan. Things were dark for the next few years. I still liked soccer, but after the Quakes were gone, the MLS disgusted me. Now the winds are changing and the ground is rumbling again because the Quakes are coming back.

Since, I do not like posting two blogs on the same day there is another thing that I need to mention. Sticking to the theme of shake-ups, there was a shake-up in my family. My dad called me last night to tell me my cousin, Nick, tried to commit suicide the other day. Thank God, he failed. His health is fine, but his heart is still not right. He is living with our grandmother, my dad's mother, in Tennessee. He cannot go back to work right now because he messed up his hands. My cousin has gone through a lot throughout his young life, some of it was his fault and some not. Right now, my cousin is lost right now and we almost lost him for good. For those of you who believe, pray for him.

Until then, take care everyone.

Paris, Rosie, and Lindsey

Those are three women that I have never met, nor do I ever want to hear from them. I am tired of seeing their faces, hearing their voice, or read about their most recent stunt. I do not even care if they turn a new leaf, found God, or did something that will cause them to do genuinely great acts of kindness. They are a bumper car that keeps crashing, but never stopping. They are boring and predictable. Rosie rants, Lindsey gets DUI, and Paris is...well she is Paris. Enough with it all. We get it. They are a mess. They may have different stories and have done different things, but their stories are old and their acts are annoying.

There are many other great stories to report on and there are many other more important things for Americans and other people to discuss. To be honest, celebrity gossip ("news") should be at the very back, near the comics, and between the crossword and sudoku. That is how pointless their stories are to me. Other people have done some of the same things. Sadly, there are many people that get arrested for DUIs. There are also other people who do not get along with their co-workers or with people in the same business as them. Do we hear about all of them? No, because most people do not know them. Believe it or not, Paris, Rosie, Lindsey, and other celebrities are strangers to the general public too. We may think we know them because of what we read and saw, but we really don't. All you need to do to prove my point is to do this. When you see them, give them your usual greeting and a recognition of their name and then see how they respond. If they know you, they should know your name and where they know you from. In fact, celebrities can be strangers to one another. Unless they met at a social event or worked together on a project, they probably do not know much about each other either. Do you know everyone that works in a similar profession as you?

So if we are going to talk about strangers, then lets talk about those who are making a positive difference in our lives.

1-18-08

So this is the day that I turn the big 2-5, but that is not what the buzz is all about. If you haven't seen "Transformers", then you probably haven't seen the trailer for the mysterious movie with no title. Not much is known about the film, except that something is destroying modern New York City. From the trailer, we know there is a young man named "Rob", who was about the leave for Japan when his going away party was suddenly interrupted. The film does not come out until my birthday, but it is already becoming the most talk about movie that we know nothing about. I am of course excited because I like these kinds of films and it is being produced by J.J. Abrams, one of the co-creators of my favorite television show "Lost". Also, the actors and actresses are not well known, but one of the actresses is named "Blake". While the film has no title, it has been given the code name "Cloverfield", but Paramount Pictures and others with the film have stated that this is not the name of the film.

Here is a link to the official teaser:

I think I already know what I am going to do from my birthday. :)

The Power

Today, the power in my little apartment has gone off twice so far. The outages have been short and made no damage from what I know, but it reminds me how much we rely on power. Power can make these little discs go from little reflective frisbees to great pieces of entertainment to see and hear. Power helps keep your food fresh and cool. On a triple digit day like this, it also keeps people cool too. It allows me to read and write blogs longer than my laptop battery will last. It brings some order to our streets. At night, power give us light when there should be none. There are many things the power brings and takes away. All of us who live in this modern world have felt the effects of a power outage and could add to this short list I created.

For me, this is not the only power in the world. There are other natural powers, like the sun. We think its hot here, imagine living on the planet Mercury. Of course there is a power stronger than the sun or any sun in this mysterious universe we live in. The strongest power is God. When I think God has power, I remember the moment where Moses meets with Him. How Moses had the remove his sandals for he was on Holy ground or how when Moses came down from Mount Sinai, his face would shine. What would happen is the power of God suddenly went out? Maybe then we would know how much we depended on Him.

Stay cool and hydrated this summer. I thank God for this day...even if its HOT!

Independence Day

Well I am back to the fun world of blogging. I enjoyed my vacation and time with family, but starting Thursday, it will be time to go back to work. Got to make money some how.

This 4th of July, I read a disturbing story about how in Wichita, Kansas, a stabbed woman was dying on the floor of a convenience store and ignored by 5 people, one that took the time to take a picture of her with their camera phone. I know this is Independence Day, but this is not independence we are celebrating. Police Chief Williams said it best, "What happened to our respect for life?" What is our focus in life? When you go shopping, what is your top priority?

Happy 4th of July America!
